Orientalist Beauty Walking Cane. France, circa 1870 This fascinating and seductive beauty showing her breaths is perfectly carved in elephant ivory, it measures 8 cm high and 4 cm to the side. She has Chinese eyes, and is wearing an elaborated headdress adorned with jewels and pearls inspired in the Empire fashion. There is a gilded collar, it is on top of a sound snake wood shaft finishing with a bimetal ferrule. The O.L. is 87 cm. With any chips or cracks the condition is perfect. "Orientalism" refers to the Orient or East in contrast to the Occident or West. Orientalism is widely used in art to refer to the works of the many Western 19th-century artists, who specialized in "Oriental" subjects, often drawing on their travels to Western Asia.
