Art Nouveau Celluloid Nymph Summer Walking Cane. France, circa 1910

This Belle Époque cane has a celluloid handle representing a nymph, it measures 6 cm high, and 4 cm at his widest. The nymph isinspired in the famous posters of Mucha, it has a Tortoiseshell collar on top of a Java Bamboo shaft, finishing with a bimetal ferrule. The O.L. is 87 cm and the condition is perfect.

Celluloids: are a class of compounds created from nitrocellulose and camphor with added dyes and other agents. Generally regarded to be the first thermoplastic it was first created as Parkesine in 1862, before being registered as Celluloid in 1870. Celluloid is easilymollded and shaped, and it was first widely used as an ivory replacement. * Wikipedia
