BRIGG Bobtail dog Walking Cane. London, ca. 1900


The Old English Sheepdog, also known as the Bobtail, is a large and athletic dog breed developed in England in the early 19th century. It has a great protective instinct, they are extremely friendly and peaceful, it was bred for cattle herding and helping farmers drive cattle and sheep to the market. 

 

The L handle is 12 cm lengthwise x 2.5 cm high x 4 at its widest. It depicts the well-carved head of a Bobtail with glass eyes, it shows a highly skilled carving executed in the root of a single piece of stepped malacca and it is brand-marked BRIGG ending with a horn tip, the O.L. is 90 cm, with any chips or cracks the condition is perfect.
