Silver Horse cane. Vienna ca. 1910

It is a precious handle where function meets art. It has been hand chased and engraved with a slightly stylized horse-head with striking protruding eyes and a magnificent mane extending on the entire curving back of the handle. It was intentionally modelled with rounded edges to maximize the comfort for the hand of the cane’s wearer. Brilliant silversmith art is on display in this case, in so far as, that the technique used for the modelling and chasing as well the engraving attest for a singular, one-of-a-kind, custom order.

The large silver crook handle is 10 cm high x 12 cm to the side. There is the tiny diamond-shaped hallmark with a dog head attest for the Austrian origin while the second one with the initials “WS” is for Wilhelm Schrank, Vienna, where he started his business in the II district, 1909-1922. It is on top of a reddish ebony shaft and ends with a bimetal metal ferrule, the O.L. is 88 cm. There are signals of use, nevertheless, the quality is underscored by an excellent condition.
