The Incroyables (French "Incredibles"), were members of a fashionable aristocratic subculture in Paris during the French Directory (1795–1799). Whether in a need to reconnect with other survivors of the Reign of Terror, they greeted the new regime with an outbreak of luxury, and decadence. 

The Incroyables wore eccentric outfits: large earrings, green jackets, wide trousers, bicorne hats, and carried distinctive knobbled bludgeons or canes, which they referred to as their “executive power” it were used to carry out pitched battles against those of the opposing party.

When this period ended, society took a more sober and modest turn.

Here we present one of those sticks used in those times. It is made of a piece of twisted knotty wood with some minimal faces carved into its knots.

We see above a pair of perforated eyelets decorated with two little rhomboidal layers in ivory. It is 7 cm at its widest x 3 cm. There is an original 10 cm long bimetal ferrule at the end. With no cracks or wood restorations, only minimal signs of having been used, the condition is perfect.
