A rarely encountered coloured Millefiori Murano Glass Walking Cane, Italy ca. 1900

Murano glass is made on the Venetian island of Murano, which has specialized in fancy glassware for centuries. Murano’s glassmakers led Europe for centuries, developing or refining many technologies including crystalline glass, enamelled glass (smalto), golden glass (goldstone), multicoloured glass (millefiori), milk glass (lattimo), and imitation gemstones made of glass. The 5 cm. high x 2,5 cm diameter cylindrical handle, is made of glass-paste in the Pate de Verre Murano technique. It features multiple flowers in primary and secondary colours, much like that seen in fine Italian Venetian glass 19th-century paperweights. It is on top of a hardwood shaft with a metal collar idem a horn tip. The O.L. is 97 cm. Without chips or cracks, the condition is perfect, this Cane survives intact inside a cupboard for the last 120 years.
