BRIGG Bulldog mascot Walking cane, England ca. 1900
This figure is fashioned of a single piece of ash and depicts a masterly carved English Bulldog head with inset glass eyes and characterizing short muzzle, protruding lower jaw, and loose skin that forms wrinkles in the face. It is brand-marked BRIGG close to the crutch and is a good portrait of one of the bravest dog races.
This adorable mascot carving is 5 cm high x 8 cm lengthwise x 4,5 cm wide. The O.L. is 88 cm, it ends with a horn tip, with minimal signs of usage, the right ear, broken long ago (see picture), is hardly noticeable, and the condition is excellent.
Swaine Adeney Brigg, is one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious manufacturers of leather goods, walking canes and umbrellas. A recent book “IN GOOD HANDS” about his craftsmanship has been published very recently: http://www.swaineadeneybrigg.com/store/swaine-adeney/book/in-good-hands
