Top Austrian-Horse Silver Cane. Vienna 1864
This uncommonly fine Silver handle is marvellously modelled, precisely hand chased and engraved to depict a stallion-head. It shows all the features of a noble creature with striking, big protruding eyes, pointed ears, set in different directions and a magnificent braided mane. The head is presented on an integral and well-proportionated knob plinth and topped by a raised ring, entirely engraved with rich foliates and scrolls framing an escutcheon engraved: “Infanterie Officiers Equitation 1863 - 1864”
The handle is 8 cm high x 7 cm to the side, is on top of an ebony shaft ending with a dark horn-tip. The O.L. is 97 cm. We are delighted to present this piece of art from the glorious Viennese Imperial days which comes with the bonus of a clear date, it survived one and half-centuries in flawless condition.
This cane sourced in a private German collection in where it has been well looked in the same family for the last half a century.
